TENEBRAE SERVICE, on Thursday, April 1st at 7 p.m. Soup and salad supper before at 6 p.m. In this Maundy Thursday service of hymns, anthems, and communion, you will hear portions of scripture read from the Passion narratives from the Gospels. The starkness of this story is emphasized by stripping the paraments from the communion table and pulpit. After each reading from scripture, a candle is extinguished, until we are left in complete darkness upon reaching the point of Christ’s death. The Service of Shadows ends with the strepitus, a sudden loud noise caused by the slamming of a door. This is a powerful preparation for the celebration of Easter.
